Hello, my name is Lorena Battistel and I'm the co-owner of Room for 2 Maternity & Baby. Thanks for visiting!
Here's how it all began...
In 1984 I was a wife to Renato, and mother to 3 wonderful young boys. I was also a childbirth educator and a labour & birth doula. My passion for everything pregnancy and parenting related was being lived out in my life, and I loved it! An opportunity to try out my entrepenurial desires presented itself. I embraced it and Room For 2 Maternity was born. At that time we were catering exclusively to the pregnant and nursing mom.
Our 2nd year in business we made the brilliant move to bring the store to Commercial Drive. (see www.thedrive.ca) The support we continue to receive from the people who live in this community is what has kept our business thriving and improving year after year. We've also had the priviledge of gaining a loyal following from customers who live outside of our neighbourhood but who come back time and time again to shop at our store.
Our 4th year my mother Lillian joined me as co-owner to now make us a truly "family owned business".
Our 6th year in business I gave birth to our 4th child, a baby girl! She's now in 2nd year University, and sometimes comes to give us a hand at the store. 3 generations! just might be found there on the same day.
We've seen many changes from those early days. Too many to list. But suffice it to say that as styles changed, as double income families became more prevelant, as the options for all things "baby and kid" related became more prolific, we found ourselves becoming as much a baby store as a maternity store. So we're now known as Room For 2 Maternity & Baby.
Our dedication to you, our customer, is first and foremost. It's this philosophy of providing you with the products and services that matter most to YOU that keep us in a constant state of evolution. Today we are a little store brimming with unique sought after products that make your parenting life easier and more pleasurable. We have so much fun travelling to trade shows throughout North America to find the new and innovative products being offered. We get to meet the "parent's of invention" whose product was often the result of them wanting to make an existing product more user friendly or better in one way or another. Then we get to bring these products to you! There's also no shortage of talented people right here in our own backyard. Many of the products we carry are made and/or designed locally and we couldn't happier about supporting local suppliers bringing you the best that Canada has to offer.
What has not changed is my passion and love for birth, parenting, and supporting couples through this incredible life journey. I am still teaching prenatal classes, still doula-ing, and still running the store. We have wonderful staff, who are knowledgeable, helpful, and an integral part of the success of Room For 2 Maternity & Baby. Come in and meet us, say hi, and enjoy your shopping experience!
